Keynote Address – The UIGEA and Fantasy Sports

Professor I. Nelson Rose, Attorney and Professor of Law

Professor Rose will discuss the history and current status of the Unlawful Internet Gaming Enforcement Act from a fantasy sports perspective. He recently wrote an article about proposed UIGEA regulations, which will be published in the February 2008 Gaming Law Review.

 

Professor Rose is an internationally known scholar, with more than 500 published works. A 1979 graduate of Harvard Law School, he is a tenured full Professor at Whittier Law School in Costa Mesa, California, where he teaches one of the first law school classes on gaming law.

 

A consultant to governments and industry, Professor Rose has testified as an expert witness in administrative, civil and criminal cases in the U.S., Australia and New Zealand, and has acted as a consultant to major law firms, international corporations, Indian tribes, and local, state and national governments, including Arizona, California, Florida, Illinois, Michigan, New Jersey, Texas, the province of Ontario, and the federal governments of Canada and the United States.

A review of the topics covered in FSTA Amicus Briefs filed in 2006 and 2007, and the District and Appeals Court rulings. Beyond the rulings, some of the Players Associations continue to feel they have the right to send Cease and Desist letters to companies in our industry. Why and how to handle them.

FSTA Expert Fantasy Baseball Draft

Industry experts will draft fantasy baseball teams for a 5x5 rotisserie style competition. Teams will be drafted and the league will be viewable via the FSTA.org web site throughout the season.

The draft will be held at the Inverness Hotel and a cash bar will be available.
