4:15 PM || Beyond White Guys: Demographic Trends Among Non-Fantasy Participants
Consumed by nearly 41 million North Americans, fantasy sport clearly has mass appeal.  However, such popularity is still overwhelmingly relegated to Caucasian male participants. Recent industry estimates have the activity consumed by 80% males and 90% Caucasians. Understanding why women and African-Americans participate in fantasy sport and identifying reasons for beginning the activity are important components to any organization seeking to learn from their consumers. However, this presentation focuses on the non-consumer and reasons for not participating in fantasy sport. Specifically, the goal of this presentation is to share both qualitative and quantitative information on why women and African-American sport fans are not participating in fantasy sport to determine the degree to which gender and racial barriers could be overcome.
